What's for dinner?

You may have noticed that I have included a menu of what we're eating each night on my blog. I've been seriously slacking in this area since I got pregnant.....the thought of cooking makes me want to barf and I'm too tired to think of anything to feed all these hungry children of mine (and Josh of course). So I have to admit we have been eating out and doing take out a lot. Well as an attempt to motivate myself and get my family back to our "normal" eating habits, I'm including our menu for the week (off to the side), I went grocery shopping this weekend, and the fridge is stocked. Here's to something besides taco bell, in-n-out, chipolte, or subway.

How do you use menu planning in your house? Do you grocery shop every few days, every week, every month? If you do something that works for you and your family, I'd love to hear about it!

Hey Girl! I make a menu for the week on Sunday's and go grocery shopping every week on Monday mornings! It seems to work out nice and I don't waste any veggies (which I used to if I only went every other week)! I can relate to not wanting to make dinner when you are prego though! 1st pregnancy I ate Taco Bell and Chipolte...2nd pregnancy I ate Jack in the Box cheeseburgers and Broilers...now I won't go any of those places cause it brings back yucky memories!

Hey my friend...I wish I was organized like you (yes...I said that), and made a menu for the week... I usually just buy fixins for things and decide around 4 or 5 what I am going to make....soooo not efficient!!! Love you!

Let me tell you that I had a whole menu planning out for when my parents were here so: 1) we wouldn't spend too much money in restaurants, 2) we would eat a little healthier, and 3) I could show off my cooking skills. I think I cooked like 3 or 4 times. I was actually sad. I found that I enjoy cooking. But it only works for me if I make a menu for the week and go and buy everything I'll need for it, otherwise it remains just an idea on a paper!

We usually look at the calendar for the following week and due to what's coming up decide on how many meals we will be eating at home. Once that's decided I pour over my cookbooks figuring out what the menu will look like and compose my list. It's easier (more time consuming) to order it in the way that the store is laid out. Monday evening comes and we set out to divide the list and meet back at the cart periodically to see how our list is coming along! In a way it's a little like Supermarket Sweep :)

I have tried various ways. Since working and living at my moms all routines are pretty much out the window. But my favorite menu planning was freezer cooking with Mignon. Hoping to start that up again this month.

You are inspiring me to be more organized. I often just buy the staples and hope that we'll have what we'll need for the week. Usually food gets wasted and we eat out too much. SO, I'm going to do my best to make a weekly menu on Sundays like you have done and shop on Mondays. My bro likes the website meals.com where you can use their recipes or add your own and keep them in your file. Then you pull what you want for the week and you can print one grocery list. Sounds like something worthy of a try anyhow. Good luck!
