He decided to get cranky

Joel woke up last night around 2 a.m. and spent the next 3 hours crying off and on. I hope tonight is better. Some things I pondered during the wee hours of the morning were, how the heck Michelle Dugger (18 kids and counting) does this, do Mylicon gas drops work, and should I be swaddling my newborn? Do you have some great advice for me?

I wish I had advice, but only empathy since every baby is different. For Owen, gas drops worked and for June, she loves the swaddle. Maybe Joel would feel better if he got to hold June's hand. Let's get those kids together soon, ok?

Oh Laura! I am so sorry...It brings back the memories!!! Who knows what works??? I guess try everything and then if it all doesn't work, try it all over again! I know you will figure it out, you are a pro! And I will pray for rest and endurance for you as it is so exhausting in the first few weeks!!! I love you!

If you try to swaddle, Aden & Anais swaddling blankets are THE best. They are larger than average, made out of lightweight muslin material that keeps baby cool and they are fabulous for covering up while breastfeeding too! Of course, with 5 you have more experience than I. :)

Yes! You should swaddle, and do it tightly. I love the larger receiving blankets from Walmart. They are 40" x 40", so they're square which is also nice.

As for gas drops, who knows if they really work? They seemed to with Mia . . .

Before I became a mom, I could have told you exactly what to do! :) My vote is for Andrea's advice....try it all and then try it all over again! I love you and I'm praying for you!
